White Nose Syndrome (WNS) is a debilitating disease that has eradicated 5.5 million to 6.7 million bats since 2006. As a result, several bat species risk extinction if immediate measures are not taken to expedite the study of WNS. Current techniques employ single-use equipments, which require multiple steps to collect tissue samples. However, these techniques are inefficient in time and resources for it requires multiple people, devices, and procedures to collect a single sample from a bat. Our designed biopsy punch replaces the traditional multi-step sampling procedure. Our device is based on a reusable system of cartridges, which combines the collection, transfer, and storage of the sample into one step.
