Chris Panarites, Ph.D.

Dr. Panarites has over 20 years of reimbursement, health economics, outcomes and pricing experience.  He is an expert in Medicare coverage policies and payment mechanisms for drugs, devices and related services in a variety of health care settings.  He has led product launch teams focused on reimbursement issues and managed field-based reimbursement teams.  At Abbott Vascular, which he joined in 2011, Dr. Panarites is responsible for planning, directing and managing market access activities related to the U.S. commercial launch of MitraClip, the first percutaneous transcatheter mitral valve repair system.  In this role, he oversees all MitraClip-related reimbursement-related customer-support programs, as well as training and supporting Abbott Vascular’s U.S. field sales organization.  Dr. Panarites also leads Abbott Vascular’s field-based (contract) reimbursement team focused on MitraClip.  Dr. Panarites directs Abbott Vascular’s efforts to expand Medicare coverage for carotid stenting via on-going clinical studies and is the liaison between Abbott commercial leadership and study institutions.   Finally, Dr. Panarites also manages internal reimbursement support for U.S. clinical trials sites. 

 

Prior to joining Abbott Vascular, Dr. Panarites launched a novel pain therapy for a small start-up, NeurogesX. Dr. Panarites has held senior positions at Nuvelo (now ARCA biopharma, Inc.), Scios (Johnson & Johnson), Aventis (now sanofi), the American Red Cross, and Covance.  Dr. Panarites has co-authored several peer reviewed book chapters, articles and posters.  Dr. Panarites received his B.S. in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University and his Ph.D. in Health Services Research from the University of California-Los Angeles.
