Julian Nikolchev, is a medical technology entrepreneur and executive, most recently, he served as President and CEO of Dextera Surgical Inc. In 2018 Dextera’s technology was acquired by AesculapUSA. Previously, he was a Founder, CEO and CTO of Pivot Medical, a venture capital funded orthopedic and sports medicine startup, now part of Stryker Sports Medicine. At Pivot, Mr. Nikolchev directed the transition from pioneering developer of a complete suite of hip arthroscopy instrumentation to a full commercial organization with the leading brand in the fastest growing orthopedic market segment.
Mr. Nikolchev has more than twenty five years of experience in the medical device industry and has been involved in starting and running several successful medical device companies. He is the developer of several novel technologies and products in the field of arthroscopy, orthopedics, women’s health, interventional cardiology, neuroradiology, and minimally invasive access and delivery of devices and drugs. He is a named inventor or co-inventor on more than 35 patents and patent applications.
Prior to starting Pivot Julian was a venture partner at Frazier Healthcare Ventures. Until 2006 he was founder, President and CEO of CardioMind Inc. a developer of a unique guide-wire based micro-stent delivery system. Julian co-founded ProDuct Health, Inc. a company dedicated to improving breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and sold to Cytec Corporation. Prior to founding ProDuct, Julian founded Conceptus, Inc.(NASDAQ:CPTS; Sold to Bayer in 2104 for $1.1B), a company marketing a proprietary non-surgical permanent birth control device for women.
Mr. Nikolchev is a member of the Board of Directors at Neocis Inc. (robotically guided dental surgery startup); Escala Medical Ltd (Women’s health care startup); and Neptune Medical, Inc. (medical device startup in the GI space).
Mr. Nikolchev received a B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a M.S. Degree in Technology Management from M.I.T.
