Since 1932, the SJSU Research Foundation has been an integral member of the San José State University community, partnering with faculty to help them achieve their research and programmatic goals. The Research Foundation provides the administrative infrastructure through which local, state, and federal agencies and businesses engage SJSU faculty, staff, and students in sponsored research, community partnerships, and other educational activities that support the university’s mission.

The Research Foundation also plays a critical role in helping faculty, staff, and students protect and commercialize innovations and intellectual property developed while working on externally funded grants or contracts managed by the Research Foundation. From exploring the market potential of an invention to negotiating licensing agreements with industry partners, we work to turn SJSU innovations derived from sponsored grants and contracts into global difference makers.

In direct support of faculty, the Research Foundation team delivers specialized services during each step in the proposal process: planning, identifying funding sources, developing grant proposals, submitting proposals to sponsoring agencies, and managing business details once projects are funded.

In addition, the Research Foundation contributes to SJSU student success by promoting student involvement in sponsored research and supporting opportunities for student internships in business, industry, and public agencies.
