Abstract: Ingrown Toenail Repair Device
Ingrown have two practical treatments. They are categorized into conservative and surgical treatments. Conservative treatments involve using a physical or mechanical means to apply forces on the patient’s toenails, which can cause immediate pain and discomfort. Meanwhile, surgical treatments involve surgically removing either a portion of the nail or the whole nail, which often results in weeks of rehabilitative therapy for the patient and produces cosmetically unacceptable results. Therefore we devised a simple method to treat ingrown toenails using a device that utilizes shape-memory alloy technology. Its characteristics provide gradual and sustained forces on the toenail, and are distributed equally to correct any unwanted curvature. We theorize it will be a more accessible and comfortable treatment for patients who suffer from ingrown toenails.
